Skating Movement Exploration
Here's a quick example of one of the movement features I prototyped on top of the core player movement system that I architected.
This quick prototype only took me about an hour of work thanks to the hooks provided by the core player movement system.
When skating, your momentum makes it more difficult to turn than in normal movement modes, giving it a sliding feel.
You also are not snapped to the ground plane, so you can catch air off of ledges and ramps.
Lastly, you have a slight crouch to make it feel like you are actively skating. It also helps you duck under small areas.
In the end this was a fun and free-form movement mode that could definitely find use in an escape sequence or some other fast-paced scenario.
Imagine skating down a ramp full of debris away from an exploding building!
Big shoutout to David Brender for designing this Slalom level for testing the skating!
